The voice most people picture with a snowy December gets a fresh look in this Deluxe Edition of Bing Crosby's Christmas Gems, pressed on white vinyl with five extra recordings.
First released in 2023, the collection was assembled by the Crosby estate from deep cuts and rarities pulled from the archives. Rather than another run through the usual standards, it pairs familiar carols with relaxed, conversational performances that feel like being invited into the living room. Several moments feature his wife Kathryn Crosby, whose duets with Bing bring a sweet, homespun charm to the set and a glimpse of the family Christmases behind the famous voice.
The headline act is "Peace on Earth / Little Drummer Boy," the unlikely, wonderful television pairing with David Bowie from 1977, which appears here alongside a second version that keeps the original dialogue. "Joy to the World" and "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" show off the easy baritone that made Crosby the patron saint of the season, while "White World of Winter" swings along with gentle good humor.
Spoken greetings from Bing himself are scattered through the running order, adding a personal touch to the tree-trimming soundtrack. Put it on as the lights go up and let the old crooner take care of the rest.
