Recorded at their first headlining arena show in hometown Columbus, Ohio, I Was A... LIVE captures Beartooth at a career peak, spread across two LPs.
The band began as a studio project for frontman Caleb Shomo before growing into one of modern heavy music's most reliable live draws, mixing metalcore aggression with big, sing-along hard rock choruses. The 2025 show at The Schottenstein Center was a homecoming years in the making, and Shomo has called it the most surreal performance of his life. The recording aims to put you at the front-of-house desk, hearing the show from the best spot in the room.
The setlist leans heavily on their most recent album, The Surface, and its title track sets a fierce pace early on. The Past Is Dead and Might Love Myself turn into massive crowd singalongs, with a hometown audience that clearly knows every word. In Between, the fan-favourite anthem from their debut album Disgusting, brings the night to a cathartic close.
Between the songs there are a drum solo, band introductions and the kind of crowd noise that makes a live record feel real.
For fans who were in the building, and for everyone who wishes they had been, this double LP is the next best thing to a ticket.
