Basement return with WIRED, their first album in eight years and a fierce, focused statement from a band that never stopped mattering to the people who love them.
The Ipswich group's early records made them heroes of the emo and alternative revival, and after breakups, hiatuses and a stint on a major label, they have come back to Run For Cover, the label behind those first releases. Producer John Congleton recorded and mixed the album, capturing a raw, organic sound, and the songs carry a newfound confidence and resilience that suits a band who have been through a great deal to get here.
Lead singles "WIRED" and "Broken by Design" set the tone, all crunching guitars and big, bruised melodies with a grunge-tinged edge. Opener "Time Waster" hits the ground running, and "Pick Up the Pieces" leans into the mid-nineties alternative sound the band has always loved, with punk roots showing through every chorus and Andrew Fisher's voice sounding stronger than ever.
Twelve tight songs with barely any filler, it is the sound of a band hungrier than ever and completely sure of who they are. For longtime fans, it is a welcome homecoming, and for anyone new, a great place to start the story.
