Barbra Streisand opens her address book once again on The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume 2, a 2025 duets album that pairs her with rock royalty and younger stars alike.
It follows her 2014 collection Partners, and this time the guest list spans generations and genres, with Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, James Taylor and Sting sitting alongside Hozier, Sam Smith, Laufey and Seal. Walter Afanasieff and Peter Asher produced the set, keeping the arrangements lush and elegant so the voices always lead.
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, with Hozier, is a slow-burning opener that lets two very different voices find a shared hush. McCartney joins her for his own My Valentine, and Bob Dylan turns up for a weathered, unexpectedly moving The Very Thought of You. One Heart, One Voice brings Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande into the room for a showstopping summit of three powerhouse singers, while James Taylor drops by for the song that lends the album its title.
More than six decades into her recording career, Streisand still treats every phrase as though it matters. This is a warm, generous record from a singer clearly enjoying the company she keeps, and a lovely late chapter in an extraordinary story.
