Band of Horses' Infinite Arms arrives as a UK import, the expansive 2010 album that took the indie rockers from cult favourites into the Billboard top ten.

After leaving Sub Pop, Ben Bridwell and a newly expanded six-piece line-up made the record without label funding, much of it in Asheville, North Carolina, with additional production from Phil Ek. Several songs were written while Bridwell holed up in a Minnesota cabin, and that sense of space and solitude runs right through it. It went on to earn a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album.

Opener "Factory" sweeps in on strings and a lilting melody, setting a warmer, more pastoral tone than the band's earlier records. "Laredo" is a jangling, open-road rocker with a hook that lingers for days, and "Compliments" brings hazy harmonies and a rolling groove.

New members Tyler Ramsey and Bill Reynolds help give the album its rich, layered sound and its Laurel Canyon-meets-Carolina feel. "NW Apt." adds a scrappier, rockier jolt late in the running order, a reminder that the band can still kick up some dust.

For fans of big-hearted, reverb-soaked American indie, this UK pressing is a lovely way to revisit the band at their most generous and widescreen.
