Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy: The Very Best of Bad Company gathers the British supergroup's essential songs across two silver LPs, home to some of the 1970s' most swaggering riffs.
When Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke of Free joined Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and bassist Boz Burrell in 1973, they built a sound on space, groove and Rodgers' huge, soulful voice. Signed to Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label, they became one of the defining hard rock bands of the decade, and this 19-track set follows that run from the 1974 debut into the early 1980s.
The early hits are all here, from "Can't Get Enough" and "Feel Like Makin' Love" to the slow-burning "Shooting Star," a cautionary tale about the price of rock stardom. "Ready for Love" shows the band's bluesy restraint, while "Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy" adds a glossier late-70s sheen. Two songs, "Easy On My Soul" and "See the Sunlight," appear in previously unreleased versions, a small reward for longtime fans who think they've heard it all.
The silver vinyl suits songs that still fill classic rock radio decades later. It plays the way a greatest hits set should, one big riff after another, all of it carried by Rodgers' effortless voice.
