A Death-Grip on Yesterday was the moment Atreyu's metalcore went big, and this vinyl reissue marks two decades since its release.

Released in 2006 as the Orange County band's third album, it followed years of relentless touring, Warped Tour included, and debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 to become their first top ten record. It was also the album where they started taking real risks, pushing their sound well beyond the scene that raised them.

Co-produced with Josh Abraham, its nine songs set Alex Varkatzas' raw screams against the soaring clean vocals Brandon Saller delivers from behind the drum kit, a push and pull that defined the band. Creature and Shameful kick things off with real force, Ex's and Oh's found its way onto rock radio, and the twin-guitar harmonies throughout show a band leaning into classic heavy metal as much as hardcore.

The record signs off with Untitled Finale, a fitting close for a group that was clearly outgrowing small rooms and heading for bigger stages.

Back on vinyl for a new generation of fans, it stands as a key document of mid-2000s heavy music, and a reminder of how thrilling it was when metalcore found its melodic side.
