The album that turned Asake from Lagos breakout into a continental phenomenon, Mr. Money with the Vibe returns to vinyl in a fresh reissue of his 2022 debut.
Signed to Olamide's YBNL Nation earlier that year, Asake had already caught fire with a run of street-smart singles when the full album arrived. It set an Apple Music record for the biggest opening by an African album, charted on the Billboard 200 and won Album of the Year at the Headies. Every one of its twelve tracks was produced by Magicsticks, and that single vision gives the record a cohesive, wall-to-wall energy.
The formula sounds simple but lands like magic: rolling log drums, choir-style backing chants and Asake's Yoruba-laced hooks, delivered with the swagger of a man who knows the dance floor belongs to him. "Terminator" is a giddy, unstoppable anthem, "Peace Be Unto You (PBUY)" balances blessings with club-ready bounce, and "Joha" glides on a sweet, swaying groove. The "Sungba" remix with Burna Boy brings two generations of Nigerian star power together on one irresistible track.
Short, sharp and packed with hooks, it still sounds like the start of something huge. For any collection tracking the global rise of Nigerian pop, this reissue is a cornerstone worth having on the shelf.
