The Car CD
Arctic Monkeys’ The Car (2022) is a cinematic, moody masterpiece that sees the band further refining the sophisticated, orchestral sound they introduced on Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.
Their seventh studio album, written entirely by Alex Turner and produced by longtime collaborator James Ford, trades in the stadium-rock swagger of their earlier work for something more introspective and noir-inspired.
From the sultry strings of “There’d Better Be a Mirrorball” to the slick funk grooves of “I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am,” the album is filled with lush arrangements and haunting melodies. “Body Paint” builds to a dramatic crescendo, while “Hello You” adds a hypnotic, lounge-like atmosphere. Turner’s lyrics are as poetic as ever, weaving themes of nostalgia, heartbreak, and existential longing into every track.
