Lost Forever // Lost Together is the album where Architects found their defining voice, a 2014 metalcore landmark of crushing weight and real conviction.

The Brighton band's sixth album pushed their sound to new extremes of heaviness and ambition. Recorded at Studio Fredman near Gothenburg with producers Henrik Udd and Fredrik Nordström, it pairs lyrics about environmental destruction, religious extremism and mortality with arrangements that are punishing yet surprisingly melodic. Guitarist and chief songwriter Tom Searle, who died in 2016, gave the record much of its emotional charge, and his lyrics now carry an added poignancy.

"Gravedigger" opens with a furious blast, Sam Carter's roar cutting through dense, down-tuned riffs and skittering drums, while "Naysayer" pairs brutality with a soaring, anthemic chorus. "Broken Cross" takes direct aim at organized religion, and "Colony Collapse" turns the decline of the honeybee into a haunting environmental warning. String arrangements from Randy Slaugh add a cinematic sweep to the heaviest moments.

Searle's sharp, vivid writing and Carter's ferocious delivery make the album feel urgent from start to finish. Few metalcore records balance rage and grief this convincingly. It still sounds as vital as the day it landed, and on vinyl the low end hits with real physical force.
