Open Your Heart or Die Trying finds Arcade Fire leaving the anthems behind, recasting the world of Pink Elephant as ambient sound on a limited black vinyl Canadian import.

Released in 2026, it arrived first on vinyl for Record Store Day before landing digitally a couple of weeks later. The band has framed it as a score for a film that does not exist yet, which is a fair description. Built from material connected to 2025's Pink Elephant and written by Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, it swaps the urgency of Funeral or The Suburbs for drones, slowly shifting harmonies and sparse melodic fragments.

The record opens with a director's cut of Open Your Heart or Die Trying, stretched past eight minutes into a slow, glowing bloom. Pink Elephant's Dream unfolds in hazy, gradually thickening layers, and Season of Change is a shorter, gently drifting piece that keeps the mood suspended. Quit Your Job Meditation closes things out with more than six minutes of patient calm.

At around thirty-six minutes across eight tracks, this is music for headphones and an attentive ear rather than festival singalongs.
