Heads or tails is the gamble behind A cara o cruz, the 1993 album that found Ángeles del Infierno heading into the '90s with their hard rock edge intact. This pressing is a Spanish import.
By then the Basque band had well over a decade behind them, a string of records on WEA and a fiercely loyal audience on both sides of the Atlantic, with Mexico in particular embracing them. Plenty of their '80s peers had faded away, but this album showed a group still hungry, still loud and still writing about the street, the night and the risks that come with both.
Three singles carried the campaign: the title track, the cheeky "Sexo En Exceso," which arrives with its own short introduction, and "Jugando Al Amor," a song about playing games with love. "Las Calles De Mi Barrio" turns its attention to the streets of the old neighbourhood, the kind of hometown anthem the band always did well.
Heavy riffs, pounding drums and big, singalong choruses remain the core of the sound, delivered with the swagger of a band that had nothing left to prove.
For fans of Spanish-language rock and metal, it's a punchy snapshot of veterans who refused to slow down, and a welcome return to vinyl.
