666 is Ángeles del Infierno at full volume, the 1988 album from the Basque heavy metal band, pressed here as a Spanish import.
Formed in Lasarte-Oria in 1978, the group rode the Spanish metal boom of the eighties, building a big following with records like Pacto con el Diablo and Joven para Morir. For 666 they headed to Estudios Track in Madrid with producer Mark Dearnley, chasing a polished, arena-sized sound, with keyboards from Guillermo Pascual filling out the band's twin-guitar attack.
"Dando Por Detrás" opens with a cheeky swagger, Juan Gallardo's voice riding the riffs of Robert Álvarez and Manu García. "Estamos Todos Locos" is a Spanish-language take on a Slade glam stomper, turned into a rowdy metal singalong. The title track "666" leans hard into the band's devilish image, and "Nada Que Perder" keeps the pace high and the leather on.
It's big, shiny late-eighties metal, full of gang choruses, flashy solos and bulletproof hooks, sung entirely in Spanish and built for packed halls and festival fields.
For collectors of Spanish heavy metal, this is a key record from one of the scene's best-loved bands, and it still sounds like a night out with the volume knob snapped off, decades after it first rattled Spanish stereos.
