On turtle island, balance is kept in the ethos by the command of spoken word and sound science. In the past, these forces co-existed alongside one another. Combining, flowing around and through one another until…a pandemic struck the land causing fear and confusion. The masters of voice and the masters of sound were pit against each other in a struggle for survival, dividing the powers and thus causing the arts to develop independently of one another.
Spoken word.
Beat tapes.
Rap battles.
Sound clashes.
What emerged were clans across the land wielding great power and influence. The lyrical clans are the most seen - commanding attention with lacerating and fiery rap battles. However, the masters of sound - the beat makers, melody writers, wax and plastic mix-masters, they lay in the cut, seldom seen, but always present and heard.
They are the Beat Ninjas.
