After five quiet years, 6LACK returned with Since I Have A Lover, a warm and unusually serene record from the Atlanta singer, presented here on clear pink vinyl across two LPs.

His first two albums, Free 6LACK and East Atlanta Love Letter, built his name on moody, nocturnal R&B full of guarded feelings and late-night doubt. This third album lets far more light in. Released in 2023 through LVRN and Interscope, it trades some of that heaviness for songs about the people and relationships that steadied him, and the result feels like a long, deep breath.

The title track sets the mood with soft, drifting textures and a vocal that sounds almost relieved. "Talkback" folds a piece of Sting's "Shape of My Heart" into a tender, conversational groove, and "Fatal Attraction" brings a little tension back into the mix. "Temporary" pairs him with Don Toliver for one of the most melodic moments on the record. Producer Fwdslxsh shapes much of the album, keeping the beats spacious and the low end gentle.

The album gives itself room to wander, with guests such as Wale and Quin slipping in and out, and it rewards listening from start to finish rather than skipping around.

For anyone who connected with 6LACK's vulnerability, this is the sound of that same voice finding steadier ground.
