The seven-piece lineup of Lonnie Jordan, Howard Scott, B.B. Dickerson, Harold Brown, Papa Dee Allen, Charles Miller and harmonica player Lee Oskar fused funk, soul, Latin rhythms, jazz and blues into a sound that belonged to the streets of Southern California.

The Cisco Kid opens with that famous loping groove and a tale of the cowboy hero, and it became one of the band's biggest hits. The title track unfolds slowly, a haunting meditation on poverty and hope carried by smoky horns and harmonica. City, Country, City rides a long, rolling jam that shifts mood as it travels, and Four Cornered Room drifts into spacey, jazz-flavored territory.

Few records of the era have traveled so far, and its songs have been sampled and covered by hip-hop and R&B artists for decades.
