First self-released in 2019, it is now widely available on vinyl.

The Philadelphia band began as Douglas Dulgarian's solo outlet, a spinoff of his earlier group Jouska, and grew into one of the most singular names in the shoegaze revival. This album was recorded in a former house show venue in West Philadelphia, and you can almost feel the walls sweating. It first circulated digitally and on cassette, earned a reissue in 2021, and its cult reputation has only grown since.

The sound is a collision of guitar barrages and battering electronics, with sampledelic interludes stitched between the songs so the whole thing flows like one long transmission. Opener "Texas Instruments" sets the tone, and "Eightball," "Moerenuma Park" and "A Wasp Appears" move between crushing noise and melodies half-buried under the fuzz, pulling the band toward a dark, almost mystical kind of shoegaze.

It is a record that rewards both headphones and real volume, revealing new details with every play.

For anyone who found the band through their more recent releases, this is the essential back story, and a cult favourite finally pressed for a wider audience.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0704/2026/7313/files/They_Are_Gutting_a_Body_of_Water-Destiny_XL.jpg?v=1793989782
