the-front-bottoms-talon-of-the-hawk-1
The Front Bottoms - Talon Of The Hawk

Talon of the Hawk is The Front Bottoms at their most cathartic, a 2013 record of scrawled-diary confessions shouted over frantic acoustic strums and crashing drums.

The New Jersey band's second album, released on Bar/None, took the homespun charm of their debut and gave it more muscle. Producers Chris "Frenchie" Smith and Sean Rolie helped Brian Sella's songs hit harder without sanding off the ragged edges that fans fell for in the first place. The result became a touchstone for a generation raised on folk punk and emo, the kind of album listeners can recite line for line.

Twin Size Mattress is the centrepiece, a sprawling anthem about standing by a friend in trouble that builds into one of the band's great communal shout-alongs. Au Revoir (Adios) opens the record with nervy energy, while Skeleton and Peach keep the pace restless and the feelings close to the surface. Sella's lyrics are funny, raw and uncomfortably specific, the sort of lines that feel lifted from a late-night text thread.

This pressing comes with a digital download card, so the songs can follow you from the turntable to the commute. It remains the sound of being young and wildly sincere, best played loud enough to bother the neighbours on both sides.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0704/2026/7313/files/The_Front_Bottoms-Talon_Of_The_Hawk.jpg?v=1793976661
