Their idea was bold: a concept album retelling Poe's stories and poems through rock, orchestral and electronic textures, with a rotating cast of voices including Arthur Brown, John Miles and Terry Sylvester. It became an international success and set the template for everything the Project did next.

The Raven, with its pioneering vocoder-treated vocal, and the creeping menace of The Tell-Tale Heart remain highlights, while the multi-part instrumental The Fall of the House of Usher shows how far Parsons pushed orchestral arrangement into the rock album.
