Gira and Jarboe share the spotlight, and the record moves between crushing, hypnotic rock and passages of eerie, almost tender calm, often within the space of a single song.

I Am the Sun and She Lives push repetitive, towering grooves toward something close to ecstasy, while Celebrity Lifestyle carries a darkly catchy edge that shows how melodic this band could be when they chose. Across sixteen tracks, the songs bleed into one another, so the whole thing plays like one long, immersive descent.

Gira's baritone is as commanding as ever, and Jarboe's voice brings a spectral counterweight that keeps the record from sinking into pure darkness. The production is dense and deliberate, with layers of guitar, drones and percussion that reward close listening at serious volume.

For anyone drawn to music that is heavy in spirit as much as in sound, this remains one of the most rewarding and absorbing chapters in the Swans story.
