Producer Dave Jerden gives the guitars a thick, roaring weight, and the line-up of Ness, Dennis Danell, John Maurer and Christopher Reece plays with streetwise swagger.

"Bad Luck" became the band's highest-charting single, riding a stomping groove and Ness's sneering, sharp-tongued wit. "Cold Feelings" kicks the album off in a hurry, while covers of Jimmy Work's "Making Believe" and Ed Bruce's "King of Fools" wear the band's outlaw country roots proudly.

The influence of Hank Williams and Johnny Cash runs right through these songs, from the lonesome storytelling to the bruised romanticism, but the delivery is pure Orange County punk, all leather and grease.
