The band sold early copies at shows as CD-Rs tucked inside cut-open floppy disks, until Epitaph signed them in January 2003. They then returned to the studio to re-record bass, add keyboards and vocals, remix the whole thing and add four new songs, releasing the finished version in 2003.

Justin Pierre's anxious, witty lyrics and Jesse Johnson's buzzing Moog lines give the record its unmistakable flavour, remarkable given that Johnson had never played keyboards before joining three weeks ahead of the sessions. "The Future Freaks Me Out" and "My Favorite Accident" became the singles, both instantly singalong, while the newer additions "Perfect Teeth" and "Capital H" show the band's sharpening sense of melody.

Quirky and heartfelt, it set the template for the Motion City Soundtrack albums that followed. For anyone who came of age on Warped Tour and mixtapes, this pressing is a welcome blast of nostalgia with plenty of bite left in it.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0704/2026/7313/files/Motion_City_Soundtrack-I_Am_the_Movie.jpg?v=1793641956
