The Melvins thought it would be funny to do the same, so Osborne, drummer Dale Crover and bassist Joe Preston each made an EP for Boner Records. Osborne later admitted the joke got out of control, which is exactly the kind of thing fans love about this band.

The twist here is the drummer. Credited as Dale Nixon, the man behind the kit is Dave Grohl, who plays on all four tracks and handles everything on the closing "Skeeter," a remix of a song from his own early solo tape. "Isabella" kicks things off with grinding riffs and Osborne's unmistakable howl, while "Porg" and "Annum" stretch out further into murky territory.

Barrett Jones engineered and co-produced, and the recordings, made in 1990 and 1991, have a raw, homemade charm that suits the loose spirit of the project.

For Melvins completists and Grohl trivia hounds, it is a short, strange and very collectable curio from one of rock's most gloriously contrary bands.
