lil-peep-lil-peep-part-one-purple
Lil Peep - Lil Peep; Part One [Purple]

Lil Peep's Lil Peep; Part One is where the emo-rap pioneer's story began, pressed here on purple vinyl.

Gustav Åhr, the Long Island kid who became Lil Peep, released this mixtape online in 2015, blending rap cadences with the moody guitars and confessional lyrics of emo and pop-punk. It was raw, lo-fi and deeply personal, and it helped launch a wave of artists who refused to stay in a single genre lane.

Praying to the Sky opens the tape and sets the tone, full of longing and late-night melancholy. The Way I See Things is one of his most beloved early songs, a bleak, honest look at loneliness and escape, and Ghost Boy and Veins push further into the struggles with mental health and addiction that ran through his music.

The production leans on sampled guitars, heavy 808s and plenty of reverb, made with whatever tools were to hand. Peep's voice is soft and slurred, more sung than rapped, giving the songs a fragile, dreamlike quality that feels intimate rather than polished.

Years after his death in 2017, this early project remains a touchstone for fans who found comfort in his honesty. The purple pressing makes a fitting tribute to an artist who left a lasting mark.
