Since then they have swerved from grunge and garage rock into hip-hop and electro-pop textures and back again, with Johnny Stevens' ragged, confessional voice as the constant. Twin brothers Rich and Ryan Meyer hold down bass and drums, while Matt Kofos and Mark Schwartz fill out the guitars and synths.

Summertime Voodoo opens the record with swagger, and Suicide Machine and The Blue-Eyed Devil head into the darker corners Stevens has never shied away from. Champagne at Our Funeral carries a title that sums up the band's gallows humour, and closer Then Mickey 2 nods back to Then Mickey, a fixture of their earliest EPs, a neat thread for long-time fans to pull on.

There is grit in the guitars and bruised honesty in the lyrics, the combination that made people pay attention to this band in the first place.

It is a record for listeners who like their rock loud, personal and a little dangerous, and it rewards a proper front-to-back spin.
