Hansard draws on his solo records, The Frames and The Swell Season, treating the songs less as a greatest-hits parade than as living things still open to change.

Don't Settle sets the tone with open-throated urgency, every word pushed right to the edge, and My Little Ruin builds from a near-whisper into something huge. Fitzcarraldo, the title song of The Frames' 1995 album, still burns with restless ambition after all these years, while Lowly Deserter and Back Broke show how easily he can turn a quiet room into a revival meeting. Every breath, creak and cheer is left in.

Hansard has always been at his best when the tape is rolling and the audience is right there, and this is about as close as a record gets to a seat in that circle. For fans of the Oscar-winning songwriter, it is a rare, unvarnished snapshot of a performer at full strength.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0704/2026/7313/files/Glen_Hansard-Dont_Settle_Vol._1-Transmissions_East.jpg?v=1793639668
