On their fourth album those ideas came together in tighter, more accessible form without losing any of their ambition. Nothing here outstays its welcome, yet every song is crammed with ideas.

"The Advent of Panurge" draws on Rabelais for a playful, twisting opener, while "Knots" sets a puzzle-like lyric inspired by R.D. Laing to an astonishing web of interlocking voices. "The Boys in the Band" is a breathless instrumental showcase that rarely stays in one time signature for long, and "Think of Me with Kindness" offers a tender, piano-led ballad that reveals the band's softer heart.

Octopus is often the record fans hand to curious friends first, a perfect balance of brainpower and melody.

This 180g gatefold pressing gives the album's dense, detailed arrangements the space they need, and every repeat listen turns up something new hiding in the mix.
