Jenkem deliberately looks back to their most confrontational era, channelling the scorched-earth hardcore of Blood, Guts & Pussy rather than the poppier punk they have flirted with since.

Blag produced it himself, with Andy Carpenter recording and mixing, and the result is lean, abrasive and blisteringly quick, fourteen tracks that mostly finish before you can catch your breath. Confused and We Are the Scene open the record at a full sprint, and Damned If I Do and Psychosis Tripping stand out as two of its sharpest, nastiest blasts.

The lyrics are nihilistic, crude and often very funny, delivered with a wink that only makes them meaner. Musically it sits somewhere between hardcore urgency and the punk roots of thrash, played by veterans who still sound like teenagers looking for a fight.

It isn't for the faint-hearted and was never meant to be. For anyone who likes their punk loud and rude, Jenkem is a welcome kick in the teeth.
