Produced by guitarist John Petrucci and drummer Mike Portnoy, the record balances the technical fireworks fans expect with some of the most direct, song-focused writing of their career.

The Root of All Evil opens with a grinding, heavy riff and continues Portnoy's long-running Twelve-step Suite, while These Walls shows off James LaBrie's knack for big, arena-sized choruses. Sacrificed Sons takes on the aftermath of the 2001 terrorist attacks with real gravity, moving from sombre reflection into a furious instrumental storm.

Then comes the title track, a 24-minute epic that stitches together pastoral calm, tightly wound instrumental passages and a soaring, cathartic finale.
