This material first surfaced in 2012 as a limited CD sold only at the band's shows, and it has been hard to find ever since.

The set opens with "Better Go Home Now", captured live at the JJJ studios in Sydney soon after it appeared on their self-titled album, and "Hope" comes from the same kind of on-air session. Demos such as "Sue's Last Ride" were cut live in the band's small rehearsal space in those early days, and the closing demo was made at Turner's house after the band returned from their first overseas tour.

Ellis's violin saws, sighs and soars, Turner's guitar rings out in patient, chiming figures, and White's drums roll in like weather. Even in rough form, the push and pull between beauty and chaos is already fully there.

For longtime devotees, this is a rare, intimate look at a great band finding its voice.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0704/2026/7313/files/Dirty_Three-Ulterior_Motives_2LP_Red_Green_UK_Import.jpg?v=1793291702
