Singer Milo Aukerman was about to leave for graduate study in biochemistry, and the lineup of Aukerman, guitarist Stephen Egerton, bassist Karl Alvarez and drummer Bill Stevenson played with the urgency of a band saying goodbye. Stevenson produced the album, which came out later that year as their first live record, a quick-fire career summary that he once likened to a greatest hits collection.

Eighteen songs blast past in barely half an hour. I'm Not a Loser snaps with adolescent spite, Silly Girl shows off their gift for heart-on-sleeve melody, and Alvarez's Coolidge adds a tougher, more muscular edge. Suburban Home, their anthem of cheerful conformity, gets a roaring reading. In between come tiny joke songs that last only seconds, entirely in character for a band that never took itself too seriously.

The group soon carried on as All with a new singer, and Aukerman eventually returned, but this is the classic incarnation at full tilt. As a primer on where pop-punk came from, few live documents are this fast or this much fun.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0704/2026/7313/files/Descendents-Liveage_b1c70665-9e67-4e76-8f2f-40cdabdba1b7.jpg?v=1793182264
