d-r-i-greatest-hits-red-silver-splatter-1
D.R.I. - Greatest Hits [Red/Silver Splatter]

Houston's Dirty Rotten Imbeciles never wasted a second, and Greatest Hits crams seventeen bursts of their crossover thrash onto limited red and silver splatter vinyl.

D.R.I. came roaring out of the Texas hardcore scene in the early eighties playing faster than almost anyone, then gradually welded that punk velocity to heavy metal riffing. By the time of their 1987 album Crossover, they had practically named a genre. This collection, first released in 2001, gathers material recorded between 1983 and 1987, tracing the whole arc from basement sprints to bigger, meaner thrash.

The early cuts are over almost before they start. "Who Am I?" and "Commuter Man" each clock in under a minute, all buzzsaw guitar, frantic drums and Kurt Brecht's sneering bark. "Violent Pacification" is a pit anthem in miniature, while "Couch Slouch" and "Nursing Home Blues" show the band stretching songs out and leaning on heavier riffs. By the time "Five Year Plan" rolls around, the guitars are pure thrash metal, but the lyrical bile is still pure punk, aimed squarely at authority and apathy.

For skaters and anyone who likes their politics loud, this is a tidy primer on a band that bridged two scenes before most people knew they could meet. The splatter pressing looks suitably messy.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0704/2026/7313/files/D.R.I.-Greatest_Hits_RedSilver_Splatter.jpg?v=1793087421
