Prestige's Moodsville imprint was built for late-night listening, and this seventh volume hands him eight ballads and standards with a quartet that knows exactly when to stay out of the way. Rudy Van Gelder recorded the session at his Englewood Cliffs studio.

Tommy Flanagan's piano is all tact and glow, with Wendell Marshall on bass and Osie Johnson keeping time on drums. The Gershwins' "For You, For Me, For Evermore" opens the set with that huge, breathy tone wrapped around every phrase.
