Strings produced it himself, and it went on to win the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album. Behind him are Billy Failing on banjo, Alex Hargreaves on fiddle, Royal Masat on bass and Jarrod Walker on mandolin, a crew that turns every song into a lively conversation between friends who know each other's next move.

Away from the Mire stretches past thirteen minutes of soaring, quicksilver improvisation, and Fire Line flows into the traditional Reuben's Train for a medley that wanders from front-porch tradition into psychedelic territory and back again.
